Opened since 2005 and approved and licensed by China's Ministry of Justice, Andrews Kurth’s Asia office is home to professionals counseling clients based in China and those with business throughout China and Asia.
With significant experience in energy-related matters, our China practice group handles a variety of complex transactions across multiple borders. Our representative matters in this area include:
- Global Energy Transactions—Advised Chinese Exploration & Production companies on a number of multi-jurisdictional E&P company mergers & acquisitions.
- Ethanol Project—Represented a U.S. fuel ethanol construction company in the licensing of distillation, evaporation and dehydration equipment, scrubbers and related technology to fuel ethanol manufacturers. We have also counseled on development of fuel ethanol and biofuels facilities in China.
- Real Estate Dispute—Investigated the circumstances surrounding a former officer allegedly gaining title to real estate that lawfully belonged to the German-based producer of dental materials, a subsidiary of a Chinese multinational corporation. Based on our investigation, we provided pre-litigation advice to the manufacturer on potential legal theories to recover title to the real estate, as well as the potential defenses that the former officer would likely raise.
- Oilfield Consulting—Provide consulting advice to an oil service subsidiary of the largest Chinese state-owned producer.
- Petroleum Corporation—Trained seven in-house attorneys during an extended internship for a vertically-integrated Chinese energy and chemical company engaged in oil and gas exploration and production.
- Energy Transaction—Guided a Louisiana-based transaction on behalf of an exploration and production subsidiary of Taiwan’s national oil company.
- Power Infrastructure Project—Counseled developers of an international power and infrastructure project involving proposed power plants located in China.
- Gas Processing Project—Counseled borrower/developer in $1.1 billion transaction, advising production sharing contractors based in Indonesia and China; project involved multiple Asian banks for a plant based in East Kalimantan, Indonesia.
- Construction Finance—Represented multiple production sharing contractors in a $970 million deal for an Indonesian gas processing plant.
- Transaction Counsel—Advised leading Houston-based international gas and oil producer in financing from major lenders for operations in Indonesia.
