Doug is active in all aspects of intellectual property protection.

His litigation experience includes:

  • patent litigation and disputes involving oil field equipment, subsea Christmas trees, shale shaker screens, acoustic liquid level instruments, urethane foam dispensing equipment, furniture, livestock feeders and manufacturing processes for plastic bags
  • trademark litigation, including temporary restraining orders, and disputes involving restaurants, food products and product part numbers
  • trade secret litigation and disputes involving freight trains, subsea Christmas trees, and chemical equipment and processes

Doug also prosecutes utility and design patents (U.S. and foreign), handles appeals before the Board of Patent Appeals as well as the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit, provides opinions on patent infringement and validity and has experience in licensing.

In the trademark area, Doug prosecutes trademarks (U.S. and foreign) in addition to handling trademark oppositions and cancellations before the Trademark Trial and Appeal Board.

Prior to law school, Doug was an engineer for six years with Texaco’s Offshore Engineering Department, which included 1.5 years in Korea on a project for which he received a patent on a marine structure.

Doug Rommelmann has authored papers on ethics and Texas trade secret law.
