Dan is a Partner with the firm, concentrating his practice in transactional work involving real estate, hospitality and hotel law, and general business law. His practice includes extensive experience with hotels, apartments, and commercial and industrial projects, including joint ventures, acquisition, sale, management, property development, financing and leasing. Dan is involved in complex high profile real estate transactions throughout North America, Asia and Europe, including initial investment structuring, capital funding, financing and asset management.
Representative Experience
- Served as counsel to sponsor in the IPO of a hotel REIT on the Toronto Stock Exchange
- Served as seller counsel in disposition of 14-hotel portfolio
- Acted as owner counsel in negotiation of management contracts and technical service agreements with Marriott, Fairmont, Hilton, Starwood, Pan Pacific and Hyatt
- Acted as manager’s counsel in the negotiation of numerous management contracts in Canada, Europe, Japan, Mexico and the US
- Representation of sponsors for a global hospitality fund involving private investors and pension funds
- Representation of purchaser in connection with acquisitions of public companies (Unihost Corporation, Legacy REIT, Boykin Lodging Company and Chartwell Leisure) and private companies (Red Roof Inns and Intown Suites)
- Borrower’s counsel representation in numerous secured asset financing transactions in various countries
- Representation of Westmont Hospitality Group with respect to its corporate matters, joint ventures, operations, financings and other strategic initiatives
