Partner
Rocky Robinson is a partner of the firm and practices in the litigation area. His practice focuses on complex commercial and business litigation and arbitration. He has tried more than 50 cases to conclusion. He has handled disputes in the areas of business torts, insurance, partnership disputes, securities fraud (both state and federal), oil and gas and energy-related claims and general contract claims.
He has also advised and represented clients in the areas of directors and officers liability, commercial, employment and securities class actions, shareholder derivative suits, insurance coverage disputes, mergers and acquisitions litigation, fiduciary litigation and probate litigation. In addition, Rocky has also litigated a number of criminal matters at the trial and appellate levels.
Representative Experience
- Successfully represented trustee in the prosecution of civil damage claims against former officers and directors of defunct oil and gas company
- Obtained a $93 million settlement on behalf of privately owned oil and gas company arising out of the breach of an Area of Mutual Interest Provision contained in a Joint Operating Agreement
- Obtained summary judgment (affirmed by Court of Appeals and State Supreme Court) on behalf of oil and gas client in connection with a multimillion-dollar preferential rights claim to certain oil and gas interests
- Obtained summary judgment in a $200 million breach of contract and fiduciary duty claim arising out of the purchase of a synfuels plant on the Houston Ship Channel
- Defeated shareholder class action and effort to enjoin approximate $8 billion merger between two oil field service companies
- Obtained dismissal of claims against special committee of Board of Directors of public company in connection with shareholder class action challenging going-private transaction
- Obtained defense award in arbitration of $30 million fraud claim arising out of purchase and sale of bio-technology company
- Obtained $12 million settlement on behalf of publicly traded alternative fuels company in connection with an investment contract dispute
- Obtained summary judgment on behalf of energy related private equity firm in connection with a multi-million dollar dispute over a project to site and license a nuclear power plant in West Texas
