Andrews Kurth’s Carroll Robertson Ray Elected Chair of UHS Board of Regents

(Houston, Texas)—Andrews Kurth LLP is pleased to announce that Carroll Robertson Ray, Of Counsel in the firm’s Tax practice, has been elected Chair of the University of Houston System Board of Regents for the FY2010 - FY2011 term. She succeeds Welcome W. Wilson Sr. who served three terms as Chairman.

Appointed to the UH Board by Governor Rick Perry in 2008, Ray will take office on September 1, 2010 and will serve as Chair through 2011. The Board is the governing body of the UH System, which includes the University of Houston, UH-Clear Lake, UH-Downtown, UH-Victoria and teaching centers in Sugar Land and Cinco Ranch. The full Board consists of Wilson, Ray, Nelda Luce Blair, Michele (Mica) McCutchen Mosbacher, Jim P. Wise, Jacob M. Monty, Nandita V. Berry, Tilman J. Fertitta and Jarvis V. Hollingsworth and student regent Andrew Cobos.

“I am extremely honored to be elected Chair of this impressive group,” says Ray. “I look forward to my term and working with the University of Houston and all four great universities in the University of Houston System.”

In addition to her practice in general estate planning matters and related issues, Ray has been an active community volunteer throughout her life. She served as an officer of the Junior League of Houston and was the first female Chairman of the Houston Museum of Natural Science. She helped found and served as President of the nationally recognized public/private partnership in Houston, the Children’s Assessment Center. She currently serves as Vice-Chairman of the Cullen Trust for Performing Arts, and as a board member of the Houston Ballet and the Houston Museum of Natural Science, the Neuhaus Educational Center.

Ray was named a Texas Rising Star in Texas Monthly magazine from 2005 through 2008 and as one of the Professionals on the Fast Track by H Texas Magazine in 2009. She received her B.S. from Northwestern University in 1974 and her J.D. from the University of Houston Law Center in 2002.
