Houston, Texas

Firm continues to receive recognition for Diversity and Inclusion efforts

(Houston, TX)—Jonathan Day from the Houston office of Andrews Kurth LLP was recently honored for his efforts to promote diversity in the legal and business communities.

The Texas Diversity Council presented Jonathan Day with the DiversityFIRST award, which recognizes individuals, community groups, nonprofit organizations, and business establishments within the legal, academic, corporate, and/or health community that have demonstrated outstanding achievements and sustained commitment to the pursuit of cultural diversity and inclusion in the community and workplace. This marks the third DiversityFIRST award presented to an Andrews Kurth attorney. Houston partner Gene Locke earned the award in 2007 and Houston partner Doris Rodríguez received the award in 2008.

“I am so pleased that the Texas Diversity Council recognized Jonathan,” says Andrews Kurth Partner and Chief Diversity Officer Elizabeth Campbell. “His hard work and dedication have helped make Andrews Kurth a national leader in diversity and inclusion strategy, and we are thrilled that he has been honored for his accomplishments.”

In addition to founding the firm’s Diversity Committee, Day has helped in many ways to improve public education in Houston. He led Citizens for Good Schools, which reformed governance of the Houston Independent School District. He has co-chaired the last two successful HISD bond elections; chaired the Board of Houston A+ Challenge; led the Greater Houston Partnership’s Education Committee; and served as a trustee of the Texas Interscholastic League Foundation. Most recently, $7500 in scholarships was awarded by the Houston Urban Debate League as part of the Andrews Kurth Jonathan Day scholarship program.

“It is an honor to be recognized,” Day said. “Diversity and inclusion are core values of our firm. This award really recognizes our entire firm’s fundamental commitment to these values.”

Day is the Immediate Past Chairman of the Board of Neighborhood Centers, Inc., a United Way agency that each year serves more than 180,000 individuals and families.
