February 14, 2011
Houston, Texas

Houston, TX—Elizabeth Campbell, Partner and Chief Diversity Officer at Andrews Kurth, has been elected President of the Houston Urban Debate League (HUDL) for a two-year term. Campbell, along with Andrews Kurth Partner Griffin Vincent, has served on the HUDL Board since its formation in 2008.

Each year, Andrews Kurth sponsors the annual City Championship and awards $7,500 in Andrews Kurth Jonathan Day Scholarships. The scholarships are awarded to the members of the first and second place teams in the City Championship and are for post-high school education. The firm, along with other Houston attorneys, community leaders, and former debaters, was instrumental in getting HUDL up and running. Andrews Kurth Partner Gene Locke chairs HUDL's Advisory Council.

"I am honored that our Board has entrusted me with the responsibility of leading HUDL as we try our best to maintain the work that we have accomplished for HISD students in our short history," said Campbell. “The uncertainty of future funding for educational programs is a concern, but the academic success of HISD high school debaters cannot be ignored."

Campbell is a frequent speaker, training facilitator and author on the topic of diversity and inclusion and related employment law topics. She works closely with the chairs of the firm’s Diversity Committee and the Women’s Initiative Team, and is a member of the Recruiting, Professional Development and Associates Committees. During her career, Campbell has worked in the areas of administrative and employment law both in law firm and in-house counsel settings, and has led human resources, employment relations and diversity strategies at large corporations.
