Rocky Robinson is a partner of the firm and practices in the litigation area. His practice focuses on complex commercial and business litigation and arbitration. He has tried more than 60 cases to conclusion. He handles disputes in the areas of business torts, insurance, partnership disputes, securities fraud (both state and federal), oil and gas and energy-related claims and general contract claims.

He also advises and represents clients in the areas of directors and officers liability, commercial, employment and securities class actions, shareholder derivative suits, insurance coverage disputes, mergers and acquisitions litigation, fiduciary litigation and probate litigation. In addition, Rocky has also litigated a number of criminal matters at the trial and appellate levels. He is Board Certified in Civil Trial Law by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization and is a member of the American Board of Trial Advocates.

Representative Experience

  • Obtained dismissal of shareholder class action alleging violations of federal security loans and state law claims relating to a $26 billion going private transactions involving a technology company
  • Obtained no action letter and closure of a multi-agency criminal and civil government investigation of oil field services client for allegedly violating trade sanctions with Iran
  • Represented publicly traded oil and gas exploration company in a multi-million dollar natural gas contract dispute which involved claims of fraud and tortious interference. After a six-week jury trial, a favorable verdict was returned for the client
  • Obtained multi-million dollar settlement on behalf of trustee in the prosecution of civil damage claims against former officers and directors of defunct oil and gas company
  • Obtained a $93 million settlement on behalf of privately owned oil and gas company arising out of the breach of an Area of Mutual Interest Provision contained in a Joint Operating Agreement
  • Obtained jurisdictional dismissal of multi-million dollar reinsurance dispute against client in the Western District of Texas
  • Obtained summary judgment (affirmed by Court of Appeals and State Supreme Court) on behalf of privately owned oil and gas company in connection with a multi-million dollar preferential rights claim to certain oil and gas interests in New Mexico and Texas
  • Obtained summary judgment in a $200 million breach of contract and fiduciary duty claim arising out of the purchase of a synfuels plant on the Houston Ship Channel
  • Obtained a $16 million settlement on behalf of Bankruptcy Trustee against directors of defunct oil and gas company and its law firm
  • Defeated shareholder class action and effort to enjoin approximate $8 billion merger between two oil field service companies
  • Obtained dismissal of claims against special committee of Board of Directors of public company in connection with shareholder class action challenging going-private transaction
  • Obtained defense award in arbitration of $30 million fraud claim arising out of purchase and sale of bio-technology company
  • Obtained $12 million settlement on behalf of publicly traded alternative fuels company in connection with an investment contract dispute
  • Obtained summary judgment on behalf of energy related private equity firm in connection with a multi-million dollar dispute over a project to site and license a nuclear power plant in West Texas
  • Obtained reversal of criminal conviction in case of first impression under the Interstate Agreement on Detainers Act
  • Obtained reversal of criminal conviction on basis of violation of right to speedy trial under the Sixth Amendment of the U.S. Constitution
